Welcome to the Trinidad and Tobago Keratoconus Group!

This group has been set up to support and provide information for those who have keratoconus and raise awareness of the condition both here in TnT and throughout the Caribbean

Keratoconus is an eye condition in which the cornea (clear part of the eye) becomes thinner. This results in the cornea bulging forwards into a cone shape - which gives the condition its name (Kerato is Greek for cornea and conus describes the cone shape). As the cornea becomes more cone shaped, it becomes more irregular and it is harder to see through glasses. Better vision is possible using contact lenses and many people with Keratoconus can only see well using them.

This website explores the various options for treating keratoconus and gives links and information to help people understand the condition better. We also have a Discussion Board where you can exchange information and offer and receive support.

Gerard Ahee reports on Keratoconus during EyeCare Week

Ophthalmology Week 2008 run by the Ophthalmology clinic of the Sangre Grande Hospital certainly met its objective of creating awareness and providing a window of opportunity for keratoconic patients. As a parent of a fourteen year old who is diagnosed as keratoconic it was truly and eye opener - please pardon the pun!
